Yes - Yours Is No Disgrace - 1972

Big Jer
I thought it might be time to contribute a video of my all time favorite progressive rock band, Yes.  This ten minute 1972 video isn't of great quality, but it features the pre-Rick Wakeman, post Peter Banks lineup.

EXCELLENT.

Also one of my all-time favorite bands, in fact Howe and Bruford are two of my all-time favorite musicians who just happen to be in the same band... what a one-two punch. Denise and I recently rented the Live at Montreux 2003 concert and highly recommend it because it's a good one. Even after 40 years they still rock.

Good find Jer. Historic indeed. and a basic 4 pc. drum kit to boot.
Just shows you don't need much when you've got that kind of talent.

Thanks - that brought me back too.  By the way - did you ever really listen to the lyrics?  I never did get it...especially "Shining Flying Purple Wolfhound, show me where you are".  I always loved this song anyway.

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no disgrace.

Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are,
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are,
Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far,
Lost in musing circumstances, that's just where you are.

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no,
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.

Death defying, mutilated armies scatter the earth,
Crawling out of dirty holes, their morals, their morals disappear.

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no,
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.

I once heard Jon Anderson say in an interview that he wrote lyrics based more on how the words 'sounded', rather than their meaning.  Explains a lot when you try to understand some of their lyrics.  Even when you do try, it's really hard to understand some parts.

In fact, I never caught 'Purple Wolfhound' in the line you mentioned!

This is the first that I've learned about the purple wolfhounds so I guess I never paid attention to what he was actually singing.

Who knows what state their minds were in when they were writing this stuff
