Knew a guy that was a platoon commander in Nam.

Told me, after awhile, both sides, the Viet Cong and the Americans, would kind of get to know each other if they operated in the same general area.

Since they only knew each other by listening to radio transmissions, past engagements
and field intelligence, each side would give a name to the commanders of the platoons they faced in their area.  Not only to keep track of where the enemy was, but to get an idea on what to expect their adversaries would do in any given situation.

Each side had opinions on each other, the commander of this platoon was a hot head, this guy was cunning, this guy was really smart, whatever.

The guy I knew, the Vietnamese gave him the name "Centurion".

Which was a kind of compliment.   A centurion was a Roman commander that had 100
Roman Soldiers, fully armed, under his control.  Which, in Roman times, was a big deal.
A guy could do a lot of damage with 100 fully armed warriors behind him in Ceasers time.

Told me, sometimes, the Viet Cong, they would get on the radio, "Centurion, we know where you are, where you go next, see you then!"  Sometimes they would just yell from the brush in the middle of the night.  And sometimes, we would do the same.

He was a smart, no nonsense kind of guy.  And made it thru his turn.

So, when I noticed this one, by Alice & Chains, it kinda rang a bell.

Rooster, is the name the old guy in the vid. He commanded a platoon in Viet Nam, and was given that name by the enemy.  And even tho they came to get him, and never did, he, like my friend said, he still lost something over there.

Ahhhh.....they come to snuff The Rooster......

Grado, great story, and I've always loved that tune. The vocal, guitar tones, composition, everything. This is a case where Cantrell fit the music to the lyrics perfectly. Man, what a heavy sound.

Yup, that's a good one. Alice in Chains had a bunch of really good songs. I'm not a huge fan of hard rock or metal but I dig these guys.
