Queens of the Stone Age...or Them Crooked Vultures

Seymouro
This is one of few truly creative young bands performing (excellent lyrics and instrumentals). They have been at it since 1997. My favorite album they have made is "Songs for the Deaf", 2002.

Dave Grohl's (nee Nirvana) drumming rocks in "No One Knows".

Or, if you prefer, the "Vevo" version.

Both kick like depraved mules.

Josh Homme (Queens' lead guitarist) put together a new band called "Them Crooked Vultures"...with Grohl as the drummer and...OH YEAH, a guy named John Paul Jones on bass. This was performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April of this year. JPJ looks like a young buck here. Pretty cool...

A couple of generations represented there.  Very good.  I should scan the late night shows for bands and record them once in a while (since I can't stay up that late anymore!)

Same here Jimmy, I run out of steam a lot earlier than I used to...but what you can do is keep listening to the modern rock stations (even though 98% of it is rap and s-it...), you have to kind of "sift" as if you were panning for gold in California in "Gold Rush" days.

Once you do uncover a rare new and cool gem, check out the lineage of the band. Admittedly, all you'll get out of that in most cases are dead ends, but at least you are familiar with the members.

Crooked Vultures is way cool because John Paul Jones decided to become a member. Whenever a legend either lends his support verbally, or more movingly, by actually joining a fledgling band - it is major validation.

There is a lot of pro and con about Pearl Jam. One thing about that band that I absolutely love is the reciprocal admiration that they have stirred up. Legendary Neil Young loves that band. PJ lead singer Eddie Vedder demonstrates his love for the art and its history by doing some of the most awesome covers ever of "Love Reign O'er Me", the Beatles' "Hide Your Love Away", I even have mad love for their cover of "My Last Kiss".

Keep listening, keep learning, and stay forever young my friend!

I'm sure glad that Grohl still likes playing drums after being the frontman for the Foo Fighters because he sure is entertaining to watch. Man, that guy is all over the place... I just saw him on TV a couple nights ago as he was doing a Beatles cover for a McCartney award night. Sir Paul got some fancy award from the prez and all sorts of folks were playing McCartney compositions. What I saw of it looked cool except for when blowhardobama got up and spoke.

Here's Dave playing "Band on the Run" with Paul's band and rocking it pretty hard!

Way cool Mark...glad you left the speaking from Obama out of it.

I must say this about Obama though. He truly has fought feverishly to deliver on his campaign promise agenda. He said he would remake health care. He said he would get legislation passed on regulatory issues that put a number of new checks and balances in place within the banking and investment industry, and he delivered almost within his first year in office on each. I am not saying you have to support these measures, but what I am saying is that he is one of a very select few that actually delivered what he promised to do, and under fierce opposition to boot.

And he sure helped the U.S. auto industry under extreme pressure.

Is he corrupt? The Shorebank scam is more than enough to include him on the list of corrupt politicians. But they all are, are they not? Show me a list of politicians that are not corrupt. That would be what...a blank page?

Yes, he has delivered change and then some so he gets cred for that. My blowhard reference was to the fact that NO poititian can EVER get in front of a microphone without tooting there own horn... i hate that.

Besides that I simply have a different world view than the prez.

Oh yeah, did you see them Crooked Vultures on SNL last night?

Good point about Obama...I have a different view of the world than "the Prez" myself. And I agree that all politicians are blowhards.

Wow...I didn't know that "Them Crooked Vultures" were on! How cool!  How was it?
