Pink Floyd and/or Roger Waters...thoughts?

Seymouro
Pink Floyd was, and remains, an undeniably incredible force in music, with Roger Waters in the band or with David Gilmour going it without him, with the rest of what is an all-star ensemble.

I, for one applaud Gilmour telling Waters basically, to go f--- himself when Waters FAILED to communicate with the rest of the band, and essentially said it was done.

But as awesome as "Momentary Lapse" and "Division Bell" were, the "yin" that went with the "yang" was lost with those developments.

Waters was always clearly the pessimist. David Gilmour was the optimist. Somehow, the twain was hard to meet, and I feel, was also a wedge between them as artists. The band was happy (in my opinion) to have a shot at the "other side", and it was an enormous success after Waters split.

But my clips here are the creation of Roger.

"Animals" was a nasty but unrivaled work that exposed "human" nature at it's nadir. It was arguably darker than even Black Sabbath at its' bottom. Not pretty, but food for thought at the level of Filet Mignon and Lobster Tails...and awesome loudness.

Hope you have about half an hour...

Always one of my favorite bands.  I had listened to Meddle & Obscured by Clouds (on 8-track!) a lot before Dark Side came out. Dark Side of the Moon through The Wall were their very best albums in my opinion. The band seemed to be missing something after Roger left, but still managed to create some good tunes here & there. I also missed Roger's vocals on Pulse & the only other live Pink Floyd videos you can find.

I ran across this excellent live performance of Dogs by Roger Water's band. The singer does a great job & sounds a lot like Gilmore. Unfortunately, YouTube cuts off the end of the video at the 10 minute mark...

Good job, Seymouro!

Made me realize that it's been too long since I've listened to Animals. Also makes me wonder how all of that creativity can come from those guys... either together or separate. I do love the old Floyd with Waters and Gilmour but the later stuff doesn't lose much and in fact some of my favorite songs are Gilmour tunes. I absolutely LOVE Division Bell.

I wonder why Waters isn't singing lead on that live vid???

Gilmour sang Dogs, not Waters.  Listen to Seymouro's link again...

Can't believe that I spelled Gilmour wrong...maybe because I just watched Happy Gilmore?  Yeah, that's probably why...

Hmmm...or am I wrong about who sang it...now that I listen to it again...???

No, your right, it's Gilmour through most of it. Their vocals can sound very similar.

Roger Waters on Conan 12/15/10. He talks about The Wall & re-creates his classic line "If you don't eat your meat..."
