Hello Detroit

Paul Wargo
I was at the local piano bar the other day and Stefan played this song that I had never heard before. Judging by Sammy's tux I'm guessing early 70's. Hopefully we'll get back to a more positive image as portrayed in this song. There's a tremendous amount of work to do but I choose to remain optimistic that it can and will happen.

while there's life, there's hope.

I guess it was only a matter of time before we got one of the Rat Pack here on the ol' Vid of the Week forum so thanks for that, Paul. Sammy was looking quite slick in that tux. If you don't have time to watch the entire song at least check it out from about the 3:00 point where Sammy really gets going.

Yea, the song never really caught on, but Sammy did a great job with it.
I agree Paul, there's hope.  There are more businesses moving back downtown including Quicken Loans (where my son works for those that don't know that).  He's living in a loft across from the Opera House and loves it.

And on the Detroit subject, I'm singing the National Anthem at the Veterans Day Parade on Woodward this Saturday.  That should be a unique experience.  They said the last couple of years the folks had way too much improvisation for their taste and asked if I would sing it pretty straight.  Oh well, I guess I won't get out the harp...

That's great, Jim! You're joining a long list of stars to sing the national anthem!

Here's a montage of many singing it, but you singing it straight, will be great!

Hey, if you sing it straight, maybe a bongo solo in the middle would be ok?

Cool, Sammy. We needed all the support we could get then, and boy, do we need it now...

Just kind of, you know, keep that whole City Council and mayoral scandal quiet.

Given the $$ these people make "governing" the "D", if I thought that there would be even a scant ray of hope that I could cut through the corruption, I might have given myself a crack at holding public office there.

Nod nod. Wink wink.

Did you rock the D with your rendition of the anthem on saturday? Sure was nice outside... decent turnout?  Will there be Vid of the Week of it coming soon?

Well, I couldn't get the video camera to hook up to the computer, but Sue took this video with the phone.
I am a little pitchy in the beginning (there was a steady feeback hum on the stage) But anyway - here's a  video.  Poor quality but here goes.

I'll try to get the video off the camera once I get the Canon software...

Hey, I think Sue did a great job with the phone cam. I don't think the quality is poor at all, in fact the vid is clear and the audio isn't bad either, I just wish she could have been a bit closer but the shot through the crowd is kind of cool too.

Oh yeah, the singing was great as expected.

Good job, JP, you did the ol' anthem justice.

Last thing.... if you decide to upload another vid be sure to create a new post so it's easy to find in the future, otherwise it'll just get lost and that would be a shame because we'll want to dig this back up next Vet's day.
