Now this one is……far out.
The song, It’s all over now, baby blue, is a Bob Dylan song.
The movie, Girl On A Motorcycle.
Obscure, seen by a very few, forgotten by most,
but in a way worthy of interest.
Mary Anne Faithful was Mick Jaggers girlfriend
in the 60s. Till she dumped him. She was a well known model and aspiring actress. One of the rare birds, not content to live a hangers on life, no man could hold her.
Her first full length film, Girl On a Motorcycle, showcased
or gave a preview of things to come.
It was the first film to really portray a liberated woman.
When her lover sends her a Harley Davidson Road King to entice her to leave her husband for him, she does.
With no regrets.
That her hobby is riding motorcycles thru the countryside while high on LSD was another shocker to the general public.
Girls just didn’t do that sort of thing.
I mean, sure, there have been breakups forever.
But this girl…….she did what she wanted, period.
The movie was created and shot outside of the mainstream
movie industry with money that came from, well, nobody knew. This just was not done in Merry Old England.
The special effects the director used to mask the sex scenes, and show what she saw when tripping, were cutting edge for sure.
The overall theme, especially the ending, some would say
would be the model for another film to be made 2 years later in the USA, Easy Rider.
The one piece black leather outfit she wore, only a few British women Road Racers dared to actually show themselves in. That suit would would inspire who knows how many BSDM outfits in the years to come, not to mention Catwomans costume in the American series “Batman”.
To top it off, it would be the first film to get the dreaded
“Rated X”, by the new movie rating system in America.
1967 in stuffy old England.
Girl On A Motorcycle was breaking the rules.
