Garnd Funk Railroad - 1974

Here's a vid that harkens me back to my highschool days by a band that could really jam in their early years.

Enjoy all 7 minutes and 46 seconds of "Heartbreaker" by Grand Funk Railroad.

An excellent choice.  I remember Grand Funk as the featured band on "New Years Rockin' Eve" one year when I was a kid...though I wasn't playing guitar yet, I dug their stuff a lot even as a wee child.  Farner is one of the best rock voices ever.  And dig them puffy sleeves on the drummer!

Trivia...or one of you guys will know this immediately.  When did Grand Funk become GF Railroad?  They added that at some point.

Really enjoyed the video Mark, in fact Heartbreaker was a regular that we played way back when.  Here is another GFR personal favorite, along with a little band history & archival footage/pictures...

This new site may take a little getting used to for an old fart like me but I think it's going to be pretty good.
Definitely brought back a lot of memories. I always thought of them as a 3-piece, so was the keyboard guy just for live gigs?
gotta love that hair!

Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed the addition.  I didn't remember what bands they came from, so I found it very interesting & worth sharing.

BTW, how are you feeling?  You look a little pale!

I wouldn't worry... you're already posting in the forum! If you ever have a question just ask because there should always be someone around to answer it.

Yeah, Heartbreaker is a great song. Never played it but always really liked it, and except for a few cheasy songs GFR was a classic jam band. I used to have a GFR poster in my bedroom for a long time as a teenager.

Time Machine was a great song too and I never realized that it was GFR's first hit.

Mark:

Thanks for bringing back fond memories of my favorite raw rock n roll group of the 70"s!

There is also a live version of Time Machine at You Tube with GFR and Ted Nugent.  It's a poor quality version but worth a look at.

Great pick...

No doubt inspired by your brother Gary's 8 track of "Survival", Mark.

Also I loved their cover of "Gimme Shelter", same album.
