GINO VANNELLI (Live) - Brother To Brother

Big Jer
This post was updated on .
Way back when, young people used to hear & enjoy music like this on the radio. This LIVE (not lip-synced like today's pop artists) performance features Gino's brother Joe (co-writer & keyboards), Daryl Stuermer (excellent guitar solo) & the late great drummer, Mark Craney. This performance is so good, that the studio version will be less enjoyable after you hear it. Watch for the young girl singing along...

YES!  The Vanelli bros had a progressive edge indeed, the band posessed great musicianship.  Gino's vocal style and quality...always A+.

My mom was actually the first one to bring a Vanelli record home. I bought one of his older ones, she also bought a couple more. She often played Gino on the hi-fi quite loud on school mornings as wake-up music for Dean and me in the late 70's. Not a bad alarm clock, ehh?

Too bad the camera is so focused on the disco outfit and power dance moves, even at a few key points when the band should be featured.

I've always liked Daryl Stuermer, first heard his great guitar work opposite Mr. Holdsworth on the '77 Enigmatic Ocean from Ponty, as most of you had/have on vinyl.

Thanks for the Gino, Jer! Excellent performance.

Gino's vocal range was incredible and the band was fabulous. I wish I could have seen a Gino concert during this era. What I found most interesting is that the music was progressive but pop. Progessive pop/rock/fusion? Tough to classify yet he still managed to get on the radio and at least one song, "Love of My Life," was a pretty big hit.

That was an excellent find, Jer.

"I just wanna stop" was huge for him.

I remember seeing him sat Cobo during this tour. He was a little more flamboyant than I expected but the performance was top notch in every respect.
I wonder what he's doing these days.
