Denise and I went to see Frampton at Meadowbrook last night and it was AWESOME. Second time I've seen him, first time was early 2K's at DTE and he was great then too.... BUT, this time we had 2nd row seats near the center.
Sixty years old and he not only still rocks but plays flawlessly as does his band and with great enthusiasm. Constanly smiling, joking with the crowd and just seems like a genuenly nice guy. This may have been the best concert I've ever been to. And it's not every day that a grammy winning artist like Framton, who's been in H-Pie, is a couple arm-lengths away looking me square in the eyes and smiling while wailing on his Les Paul. I was a bit star struck. I wanted to invite him over for a BBQ ![]() Check this picture I took... ![]() And here's a vid I took with the Sony Cybershot which actually turned out very good and deserves to be played in high quality (HQ button) and full screen. Yes, that's me yelling in the background but I was holding the cam far enough away so as not to drown out the band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emCUextXIpw Enjoy! |
Well done sir...
Frampton still has it. Nice video. Wish I was there! ![]() |

Great picture and vid Mark. Must've been a great show. There's nothing like sitting real close at a concert.
Was that an encore song? or maybe just before the encore?? Did he do any acoustic? Was there an opening act? How long did he play? Get your head out of the stars and "give us the facts .....mam" |

Can't give all the information out at once.... must savor the details as they're dispensed in small amounts

OK, Frampton's opening act was a band I never heard of before called Very Emergency. They were good for a warm-up act and played modern rock.
Peter played for around an hour and a half or so and he played a mix of old and new. I can't rifle off all the songs he did but the song list was definitely different from the last time we saw him. He did do a good bit from the "Frampton Comes Alive" album and my fav was "Money" which he really rocked. He also played many acoustic numbers and a few were just him playing and a couple were him singing and playing. Yep, you guessed it, "Do yu feel like I do" was the last song and he did "While my guitar gently weeps" as the encor. Jamming on the acoustic... ![]() |
Great job Mark! How cool that the video of the week was actually shot by a member! Great pics too!
Sure is cool that he's still out there touring after all these years. He still sounds as good as ever! Four or five years ago, I bought a really good live Frampton DVD that was shot at Pine Knob / DTE Energy Center. I wouldn't mind adding a Meadowbrook version to my collection, especially since you said he changed up the song list. Did you see any HD cameras moving around? |

What's interesting is that I wouldn't have been caught dead at a Frampton concert in the mid-late 70's. I was actually cheesed that he left H-Pie and sold out to play commercial arena rock, then turned girly-boy... and those posters of him were heinous.
Fast forward post disco and I'm much less offended and Peter is sounding good again. I also realize that Frampton outgrew H-Pie and he was actually doing his own stuff with them anyway. Since then he's done lots of great instrumental music that not many folks even know exist. His "Frampton Comes Alive" tunes sound excellent to me now considering what's being produced today. |
Hey Mark,
Thanks for clearing that up. I was going to ask you how you became a fan again as I vividly remember that we were both cheesed about Framp at that point of his career. Thoughts and opinions can soften and even change over time. Especially in rock music given its evolution or "de-evolution".There are a number of bands that I felt were lame back in the day that I enjoy now. As one example, I was never much of a fan of Steve Miller but welcome hearing his band among the "sludge" that you by-and-large have currently. |
Hey bro, excellent pics and nice clear video. Sounds like the recorder mic had some problems after the first minute or so, but certainly not enough to spoil the listening. Wish I could've been there with you guys.
I had the Comes Alive LP and it's worthy of getting on CD, which I've yet to do. I stuck with him thru the mid 70's until I'm in you happened. ![]() OK...forgive me for these, couldn't help myself. Leif could've been his younger and less musically talented brother. ![]() ![]() JoeMan |

You should be banished for that Leaf Garrett comparison
The problem with the sound ont the vid was caused by my finger on the mike. It was tough holding the camera in position with all the comotion around me and it was hard to pay attention to my hand position. I'm actually surprised at how good it sound for how loud it was. These little cameras generally have really crappy sound. |
I figured it might have been either that your finger was misplaced, or that the incredible volume tweaked the sensitive little mic skin or something. Yep, pretty crazy how nice the quality came out...video included.
