David Bowie Cracked Actor

Seymouro
Surprised this never got airtime. Short tune (3:01) with an absolutely killer bass line.

One of many gems from "Aladdin Sane". I always wanted to see lyrics on it. So here it is with lyrics.

Nice. How did this manage to get overlooked? Sounds like a 70's hit to me.

Always loved this one.

Didn't get airplay but the whole Aladdin Sane album got worn out in my eight track and later turntable.

Was a time I'd get tuned up every morning before going to work.

And a lot of the time, it was Bowie.

The Man Who Sold The World.  Ziggy Stardust. Allidin Sane. Diamond Dogs.

All greats, with tracks for just about every mood.

But, to get me going, strapping on the helmet, kicking the bike to life and hitting the day,
this usually did the deed.

The drums in this one..........wow.

Cracked Actor is my favorite from Aladdin Sane.

Panic is next.

Sirius XM just had a top 75 from Bowie as voted by listeners and Cracked didn't even make the list. Heroes was #2 and Changes was #1.

You got me looking back at those albums Seymoro, with your post about cracked actor.
Rare one meets another with an appreciation in the, less heard.

The guy influenced a pretty big range of musicians.  I read somewhere in a Ronnie Van Zant interview that he, Bowie, figured in a lot of his Lynard Skynard creations.
And really, was it not stunning when Kurt Cobain said on that unplugged thing he did..
"This is a David Bowie song".
And then did The Man Who Sold The World.

Ya.  Bowie good.  How's about another. Something snappy. Something Ziggy

I have nearly everything he has done Grado.

Check out "Lazarus" from his final album that he composed when he knew he was dying. It's on Blackstar, 2016.

He mentions "By the time I got to New York...I was living like a king...then I used up all my money...". Apparently when he was doing lots of drugs. The whole thing is really dark, but musically it is incredibly strong. It is like him going through his life as he's ready to pass.

I'll post the vid with lyrics and the vid with him in it for you.

Holy crap dude.  That song sounds like death. Or what death sounds like.

That was crazy, the way he died.  Kinda kept it to himself, or at least to the public.

Shocked me for sure.

Not to get off the rails,  but, if you ever get a chance to rent or watch the movie
"The Man Who Fell to Earth",  do it.

Hey Seymouro, thx for bringing some of his stuff back up.  👍

I'm late to the game....

Anyhoo, back to Cracked Actor. What a great tune that I have not heard in a long time that has my favorite Bowie guitar player, Mr. Mick Ronson. Without him this song and many others just would not be the same. Listening to this now it sounds better than ever, which is no surprise considering the state of current music.

Thanks for posting!!!

Ronson is only equaled by perhaps Stevie Ray Vaughan on "Let's Dance".

I'll check that movie out again. I saw it but it was decades ago and I liked it.

I agree but what's interesting is how much different Ronson and SRV are.
