Chicago 25 or 6 to 4

This is the BEST song that Chicago ever did. This is a live clip. God, is Terry Kath B-L-A-Z-I-N-G on this one!

Little known fact. Jimi Hendrix was interviewed in England in 1969 and was asked if he believed that he was the greatest guitar player in the world.

He replied "No. Terry Kath of Chicago is the hottest and top guitarist that is playing "in the universe". You have to check him out. Nobody is quicker or more accurate than he is". I am not sure but I think Jimi had already passed on before this was released. This one was released in mid 1970. Jimi died in September 1970.

The only real evidence I could ever produce to back that up is this tune.

Too bad they de-emphasized guitar for horns. And that Kath died a tragic and unfortunate death at a very young age. Played with guns a lot and accidentally shot himself to death in 1978. RIP Terry. BTW, I loved the horns anyway.

Yep, great tune. I also liked Questions 67 & 68 and I'm a man.

Terry was an excellent player but I wouldn't put much weight into what Jimi said because he said the exact same thing about other guitar players including Phil Keaggy who is also OUTSTANDING.

Wow.

That Keaggy dude is probably (likely) the best guitarist that ever played primarily religious, Christian music.

I always thought he'd come walking into Kensington some day!

I've been lucky enough to catch Phil live twice. Both times were concerts in large churches. That guy is a freak of nature and a HUGE Beatles fan. Have not heard of him coming around in quite a while.

What's cool is you don't usually associate kick a$$ guitar players with Christian music... at least that I've ever known.

My guess is that they're around but they won't get the notoriety of the mainstream guys. Not sure how Phil got so well known. Maybe he's just so great that he couldn't be ignored... not sure since I don't know his history.

From Wikipedia:

"Phil" Keaggy (born March 23, 1951) is an American acoustic and electric guitarist and vocalist who has released more than 50 albums and contributed to many more recordings in both the contemporary Christian music and mainstream markets. He is a seven-time recipient of the GMA Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, and was twice nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. He has frequently been listed as one of the world's top-three "finger-style", as well as "finger-picking", guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers' polls.

Man, I knew he was accomplished but that's a lot of awards. Sounds like we need a dedicated Phil Keaggy thread

Phil Keaggy is a Christian guitarist, right? I know I've heard him before but I can't recall what it was. Isn't he the guy that's missing like a finger or something?

Yep, he's the guy. He is missing one of his middle fingers on his fretboard hand. It's hard to believe how he can play with only 3 fingers (not including his thumb) but he is incredible.

Wow, Phil plays better with a missing finger than 95% of other pro payers with all of their fingers. My opinion of course but I bet I am not alone.
