Blondie. The first rapper.

Grado
Actually, she wasn’t.

There were a few gold tooth cop killer
wanna be slugs under the rug before her.

But, she was the first to take it mainstream.
It was the early 80s.

Donna Summer.
The Bee Gees.
Disco was it.

And then Blondie walked in with a tune that topped the charts for 2 weeks.

 Rapture.

Yup, she was rappin' all right.

As I remember, she got regular rotation on MTV and was in good company with the new wave bands that were around during that time. Devo and Talking Heads come to mind.

Debbie Harry was cool. Haven't heard any Blondie in quite a while and I never thought about the fact that she was rappin'. Good stuff, I really liked both tunes.

Yeah, Blondie makes me think of MTV. She also dabbled with Reggae:

Amazingly I saw Blondie with Ann Wilson of Heart (separate performances in the same show) in suburban Chicago four years ago.

She still sounds really good.
