Best "Zep" Song of All Time

Seymouro
I found an old Led Zeppelin "compilation" CD that I burned at about the turn of the century today and played it while I was painting the house. Of course, my favorite cut was on it.

Here it is. I won't disclose it. You will undoubtably recognize it.

The first chord that Page plays is MAGIC. How can a person emit so much emotion with one chord? But the magic continues because the song is so surreal, soulful and melodic it just draws you in. This is one of those tunes I used to enjoy listening to late at night with headphones whilst still under the influence... back in the day of course  Even if you're not a Zep fan you have to admit that not many bands ever had that level of creativity.

I remember hearing and seeing this song played live when Zeppelin played it in 1975 at Olympia Stadium in Detroit.  They were knee deep in fog and it was rolling off the stage into the crowd.  It was hypnotic to say the least.

If you want to read my comments about our experience at that concert check out this link:

Watching this made me think of a couple things:

1. Is it me or do the Detroit classic radio stations play WAY less Zepplin songs than they used to. This is not a bad thing because it was overkill.

2.  I remember "Wheels" (I don't recall what the actual station number was) would play Zep like every other song... sort of how 106 FM does with Van Halen now. I used to love VH but I'm finding myself turning the station when I hear them now.

Absolutely true in both cases. And what was worse and is still applicable, is that 94.7 still focuses very narrowly on album Led Zeppelin IV (or Zoso if you prefer). Songs  "Stairway to Heaven", "Black Dog" and "Rock and Roll" dominate and are all from that album, then they will do "Whole Lotta Love", an occasional "The Song Remains the Same" or "Kashmir". I was sick of Zeppelin for more than ten years thanks to the facts that you state.

They claim to have the "World's largest rock and roll catalog". Well, with the internet, doesn't everybody? I mean "You Tube" has everything. So, anyhow, why doesn't 94.7 take advantage of that library? They play and have played the same, tired rotation of everything since their inception. Mark and I have discussed this ad nauseum. I don't even bother with 94.7. Anyway, back to Zeppelin...

How about "No Quarter", "Your Time is Gonna Come", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "The Rover" or anything from III or In Through The Out Door? My favorite album of Zeppelin is arguably the first one. How about more of that.
