Ever since Seymoro submitted the Dave Clark vid's I've been wanting to dig up some Rare Earth so I fainally did. I thought about tacking onto the other thread but these guys deserve to be featured.
Even though Rare Earth got a fair amount of airplay I still always thought that they were underrated and I still think that. Man, watching these vid's made me realize how much I still enjoy their music because these guys ROCK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFBLYuM7y4g&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xRePb7VKrk |
Rare Earth was...is...excellent.
"Get Ready" rocks! "Big Brother" is an all-time standard. Who really knows the degree that "Big Brother" is watching. To quote Jagger from "Fingerprint File"..."You better tell the S.I.S. to keep out of sight, 'cuz I know they're taking pictures on the ultraviolet light, but these days, it's all secrecy, no privacy". Among others, Rare Earth was in front of "Fingerprint File". The legendary band Spirit (featuring Jay Ferguson and the incomparable Randy California) was as well, with "1984". Great stuff Mark. Now, in behalf of our sponsor, the all mighty and powerful Pacific Gas and Electric Company, presents the band that the almighty powerful Pacific Gas and Electric Company forced into changing their name to P.G. and E. Fully 30 years in advance of Erin "freaking" Brockovich (portrayed by Julia Roberts) and the great "rolling blackouts" in the inferno previously known as the "Golden State" . Here is P.G and E. Or Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Regardless, now they perform not "Get Ready", but a very impressive "Are You Ready?". There were better video reproductions available than this (non-existent) but this is the original material. The bass lines and vocals are off the charts. Speaks for itself, you think? Then after that, Sugarloaf's inimitable "Green Eyed Lady". An era that will never be equaled my friends! Seemingly obscure bands stepping up to levels that most of today's musicians would need a spaceship to reach. Not all of them. make no mistake, there are a lot of great acts likely still out there. Will somebody please step up and find them? I dig this. Hope you guys do, too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20HmSomEHZ0&feature=fvw Sugarloaf featuring Jerry Corbetta (original member) from January 2008! Way to go old man! Sound is a bit "up and down". Point comes across loud and clear regardless! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX6A-s1jci0 |

Sorry, I shorted the lead guitarist on "Are You Ready".
Think so? What riffs! |

Yes, Are You Ready by PG&E is excellent and a tune that I have not heard in a long, long time so cudo's for finding that one. I still hear Green Eyed Lady ong the radio from time to time but no PG&E.
Regarding lack of great bands being around.... there may not be as many but the real problem is that there are no radio stations willing to play them, and since as far as I know the stations play based on demand does that mean there is a lack of demand? So if a musician needs to make a decent living they're forced to play crap. It's always been that way to some degree just more so now. Think for a minute... here in the D the radio staions no longer play album sides, deep tracks, deserted island picks, King Biskit, guest DJ's and all of that other cool stuff they used to do. Where's the Jazz station? (real jazz not elevator jazz) Why no more calssical station? WDET dumps music programs for news??? Sad. |
I forgot about both of these bands, but definitely remember these great tunes. Good job guys!
I couldn't resist adding another 'Are You Ready' to this post, so here's a raw performance by Grand Funk Railroad in 1969 or 1970... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvMf3vp0DfA |
