ZEPHYR - Cross The River - Tommy Bolin / Candy Givens
Here's an unknown classic by a band started by Tommy Bolin in 1969. Candy Givens was the female vocalist & had a Janis Joplin style of singing. This is a hard rock tune wriiten by her & David Givens, with a little jazz thrown in (the middle) for good measure...
Wow, not familiar with this one. Sounds a LOT like Deep Purple to me with Janis on vocal. Tommy was awesome but unfortunately not so awesome toward the end of his life. He actually was a member of DP during what was the lowest period of that bands exsistance to date.
I've tried to find live Tommy vid's before but couldn't find a good one.
My favorite Bolin stuff is on the Billy Cobham "Spectrum" album and Tommy's "Teaser" album.
Good one Jer. I remember your brother Dave turning us on to this back in the day; (Along with countless other groups (and substances)). I didn't realize Tommy Bolin was the lead player. Love the B3 and harp too. There is some Zephyr available on I-tunes. A live album with Bolin and another studio one without him.
I couldn't help myself, I had to buy "huna Buna" from the live one.
quality's not too good but it's a great jam.
Thanks for the memory

Wow, the live version is long and Tommy takes an extended solo. Interesting how he takes a pure rock song and jazz's it up during his solo and then back to rock again.
