What do you think so far?

I hope y'all like the new forum... I'm definitely new at this so feel free to make suggestions. The rest of the site is still in the development stage but poke around and let me know what you think of that as well.

Very cool indeed.  I like the notion of taking this to a forum for a number of reasons.  It will be nice when we can easily access older historical posts / vids once this has become a repository of great additions.  We'll be able to see the responses by everyone here in a thread rather than having to look at 5 or 7 emails.

Suggestions.  Is there a way in the forum setup preferences to have the video link open up in a new window rather than leave the forum completely?  I would rather close out a new window than to have to hit the back arrow...certainly not a critical must-have.  I'm still coming back.

Do you create a set of moderator "rules"?  I've seen the friendliest of forums get stupid when 2 guys disagree even on a nice subject...such as which primer to use on the hull of their old Starcraft boat.  Next thing you know, they're having a spirited exchange which is undesirable to most everyone else.  That is more likely once the invitations turn this to 15, 20, 30 guys.  Doesn't need to be a handbook, but i'd suggest something simple to start with.  "Watch the language...this is a family friendly place" and the like.

I listened to a few of the tunes in the audio only library, and will likely put this on sometimes to have tunes going as I work at the pc.  Not sure if they're all "complete" songs, but Bastille Day for instance is only a 23 second sample.    Just FYI.

You should already have the option to open the link in a new window by using the right mouse button and selecting "open in new window".

I have basic rules explained in the "What can I post?" thread under the Music Q & A. I also reference it in the welcome section. If I need to put the rules right out front or add more I will.

I obviously didn't listen to songs in the player all the way through but as I do I'll make corrections. I also plan to add more songs and keep it fresh so that I and you all can play them in the background. Feel free to suggest songs or bands to add.

I think it's a great idea & another great job by you, Mark!  I'm really looking forward to posting some video links & comments.  This will be a great way to keep everything organized & easily accessible.

How about creating an archive section for our past contributions?

Thanks for the kind words and yes... I absolutely will be adding an archive for the oldies but I wanted to get the basics down and build from there. I've also learned a few tricks and will pass on some ofnthe useful stuff once everyone gets there feet wet.

Mark:

Great idea to setup this forum.

Is it possible to imbed a You Tube mini viewer window in the post so that you can watch it while remaining in the forum thread?  I've seen it on a couple other private forums that I frequent.   Here is an example:

Imbedding a video would be cool for sure, unfortunately if there is a way to do it I don't know how. There are options to imbed stuff on other pages of the website but none that I've seen in the forum.

An easy way to open a link without leaving the forum is to click on the link with your right mouse button and select "open link in new window".... works great because your actually on the Youtube site and can see all the other video thumbnails, ect.

Ok, gotcha.

If you're ever interested in the feature of imbedding a video in the forum message you can check out this free forum  software program called phpBB.

I am getting more and more used to this forum and as I do, I like it more and more.

I think that it is an upgrade.
