Thin Lizzy Merry Christmas

Seymouro
I often wondered what all the commotion was about with regard to Gary Moore.

It was answered in a reply I received while discussing Thin Lizzy on WABX Detroit Facebook page. This is an incomparable job of guitarmanship by Gary Moore.

Gary Moore was undoubtedly a great guitarist as represented by the large body of work he produced. When it comes to This Lizzy though my favorite band lineup was Phil, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson and Brian Downey. Gorham and Robertson were buddies and were the ones that invented that harmonizing guitar sound that was, IMO, THE thin Lizzy signature guitar sound. Nothing against Moore, he was awesome, but Robo was my boy in Thin Lizzy.

All that said, the vid you posted is fabulous. Thanks!!!

Oh yeah...Robertson was tops. Too bad him and Phil couldn't always get along. The band bickered a lot, but I don't think it held them back much. The only real shot they had was when stations decided to play those two off "Jailbreak" and by and large ignore the rest of a great catalog of music. At least they got paid for that period.

There are recorded versions of this same tune with Robertson and Gorham that sound really good. For just this particular song though, Gary owns this one.

All I know is that Thin Lizzy had a sound that was what I consider the ultimate 70's rock sound. How many of those guys are still living?

Well, Phil is looong gone and Moore died a few years back. The rest of the guys I believe are still with us but I have no idea what they might be up to.
