I love my British invasion. My hard rock and roll. My rhythm and blues.
But as far as just simple singing is concerned, the Temptations are unbeatable. Sure I like the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, Mick and the Stones, the Who and I could go on and on. But the Temps can hit every octave in every range like no others. The best are Ruffin and Kendricks.
I remember seeing each of these the day they were on TV. First is this incomparable Whitfield and Strong number. The Funk Brothers and accompaniments put a real shine on this one.
The second is a gem from Ed Sullivan. Note that the Temptations can sing the Supremes' songs as well or better than they can. Diana and the girls sound great, but...
