The "Floyd"

Seymouro
The local rock station here in rural NW Illinois (102.1) gets major props here for playing a nine minute long Pink Floyd song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", a few days ago. No station plays songs at that length any more.

Then they played "One of These Days" from "Meddle", which pre-dated "Dark Side of the Moon".  The guy who played it in his time slot called Roger Waters' bass work as "frightening and foreboding"! Good call. Syd Barrett influence still strong. Have to post what may be the best ever song by the band. "Echoes" is also from "Meddle". It is 23 minutes of BLISS. It is the "acid trip" with no acid required! These two songs from that album are otherworldly.

All I can conclude is that David Gilmour is incredible, but Roger Waters is absolutely indispensable as both a songwriter but also instrumental contributor to that band. Critics have always painted Zeppelin as the most mysterious and misunderstood band of modern times.

So is "Floyd".

Nice.

I remember the days when local Detroit stations would play extended songs, then only at night, then only late nights. I rarely listen to radio any more because it pretty much sucks day and night now.

Regular radio does generally blow. This local station is better than any in Chicago, Rockford or Detroit at least.

I don't have Sirius XM so unless I have CDs in the car, I listen to the regular FM radio.

I was reading a forum on a guitar site last week where these guys couldn't figure out what people see in Gilmour. Said he is a good song writer but not much of a guitar player. I really wanted to chime in but I would have been out numbered and didn't have time to get into a war. If I run across it again I'll copy the link.

You were smart not to chime in.

These people are idiot trolls.

And these trolls seem to have unlimited time and resources to wordsmith their responses making it very tough to debate.

That is SO true. Still, how could anyone not recognize Gilmour's talent? Seems impossible but I guess when you consider some of the hacks making millions out there it boggles my mind.

Surely they need an attitude adjustment.

Reminds me of a young black female clerk from about 1980. Someone said they liked the "Final Cut" Pink Floyd album.

Girl replied "I hate him".

Ha ha. A friend of mine has a t shirt with that picture on it so that's how I thought of it. He's actually a member of the forum but hasn't been around for a while.
