Rufus - You Got the Love

I had to tap into my black roots for this next vid. Oh yeah, for any of you that weren't aware, my mom told me back in 1967 when I was merely 10 years old that I must be part black because I was listening to so much "black" music at the time  Whenever she came into my room it seemed I was listening to Ray Charles, Temp's, etc, etc - true story.

I still and will always love Jazz, Blues and Funk and this next tune by Rufus is very funky. You gotta dig that guitar/bass groove they got goin' on.

Did I mention the intro is by none other than Don Cornelius? Can you say Soooooul Traaain?

I feel you here Mark...

Excellent pick. And Chaka Khan is legendary, but the band helped a whole lot (see...Alice Cooper R&RHOF with ORIGINAL band).

But yeah, same thing was going on with me. Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic (pre Parliament Funkadelic...I Got A Thing, You Got A Thing, Everybody's Got A Thing...I Wanna Know if its Good to You Baby...u know the drill).

I just found an album my dad owned (Ray Charles, "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music"). I had to play it right away! Probably played it 100 times or more anyway. Features "Born to Lose", "You Don't Know Me", etc.

It is really still R&B with a country flavor but gotta love it!

Excellent post!

Hope somebody else posts soon!

Dead genre?

HOPE NOT!!

No, the genre is NOT dead... just listen to New Soul Sunday on WDET

Speaking of dads, my pop loved Ray his whole life, at least as long as I can remember from a young boy. Even this past year when I would leave his house I would say "I gotta hit the road, Jack," and he would respond "you can't mean that" like they say it on the record. So maybe the black roots come through him somehow   He loved Count Basey, Duke Elington, etc, etc

It's been kinda quiet around here lately... just been you and I but that's OK with me. I've been enjoying your input.

Man, speaking of dead I heard today that Don Cornelius died today of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Too bad he didn't read this thread beforehand...... might have cheered him up knowing he made it to the YTVOTW forum.... or not.  What a coincedence though since I just mentioned his name days ago.

I was going through previous posts and this one caught my eye.... Rufus featuring Chaka Kan? Really? Then I listened to it and realized that I never gave Rufus cred for a great tune. I think it still took gonads to write that post and to reveal your background. Also, I se that you posted it just before Black History Month. Was that coincidence or intentional? Well, it's almost BHM 2015 so I thought I'd bring it to the top again
