Recovery after the Nabble thing. Admin take note.

Grado
To whom it may concern.

Realize, after the move to the new server, this place has a new url.
A new address.
Unless existing members get notified, they will try and log on, and see "cannot find server".

Because the server that had the old address has been taken offline.

Grado, over at Cyclevisor.com, another Nabble forum, tried to just email everyone off the people list the new address, using the members list, when that issue was realized over there.

We found 8 out of 10 emails did not go thru using Nabble's hyperlink thing.

But, it was noticed, when the email wasn't delivered, yahoo, the mailbox Cyclevisor.com uses, notified us the message could not be delivered.  It's a http/https thing.
And, in that "could not deliver" email from yahoo, the email of the intended recipient was displayed.  The real email address of the member of the forum.

So, we took every email that bounced, and sent a new email from another source, a source that has an https address, the new address of the forum.  Gmail, yahoo, aol, Hotmail, they all are https.

Every member got the new address that way.

Oh, and the new address for this place.

Hope this helps.  Grado.

Hi Grado, thanks for the info. FYI, seems the good folks at Nabble really jacked up because I notified them 2 or 3 times to save my forum, which I suppose they did, but if it weren't for you I might have never figured out how to get it back. I actually thought it was toast. You mentioned that the user email link did not work? If not the only way I can think of to send them the new link is to send each one an email from my personal account. Is that right?

Ya Mark, that's what I did.

Once you email all your members, the ones that come back, just reply to that from your personal address.  Maybe make a small note, explaining what happened, with the new address, copy it, and just paste it to the reply's.

Looks like you lost all of August, I had to rejoin, but hey, at least this place is back.

Guess I'll have to go lookin for Root Boy again

Grado, I sent out a message to all of the users so we'll see how that goes. I haven't received any rejects as of yet :-)  I wonder why you had to re-join and why your posts are gone? I really don't get that. It's worrisome because will everyone's posts disappear? Man I hope not. It's bad enough that we lost rootboy!!!

Well Mark if you look at the dates of posts, all of August is blank.  I joined early August.
I had 2 threads up in August.  Root Boy and Summertime Blues.  All that has vanished.

I wouldn't worry too much about it tho.  There wasn't a lot going on, posting wise , anyway.

Now, it's the new address thing that kind of concerns me.
I mean, with me it was like starting my forum over.

In your case, even if nothing comes back as undelivered, it might not be a bad idea to just email a member or 2 and ask them straight up, can you log on to the site.
I haven't seen Walter E, Seymouro or Bob post anything for a week or 2.
And they were pretty regular postin guys.

I tell you, all this has had me grinding on the whole way a guy runs one of these.
Or should.

I've given every one of my members one of my personal email addresses. An easy one to remember. That way, Franklin or Israel, aka Nabble, go off the deep end, we can kind of regroup.  Thats how Cyclevisor.com started.  We all were on CycleWorldForums.com,
and those guys that owned it just shut it down one day.  Decades of really good stuff, if you're into motorcycles, poof, gone in an instant.  We were like refugees, shipwreck survivors, floating around on rafts at sea lol.   One guy finally got ahold of another, someone saw someone on another site, or Fbook, emails were going back and forth, for about a year.  One day I just said the heck with it, and started Cyclevisor.com.

Hopefully those guys figure out how to monitize Nabble.  Someone over there is suggesting a donation button.  Heck, I'd pay 10 bucks a month. Easy. It's a good product.
Try phpbb, or Simple Machines, or VBullitan. They are complex as heck.  It's free, ya, that's cool.
But I'd feel better, a bit more secure, if they were making money at it.

Lemmi know what happens with the emails thing, here, if u could guy.  Later....Grado.

This post was updated on .
Damn your right. I didn't notice that the whole month of August and looks like most of July are gone. That's not a huge deal though, we'll catch back up. One good thing is that we might see some folks come back that have been dormant now that I've sent them a message. An interesting thing that happened was that the forum address changed, must have been early July, but I was still able to log on and same with Bob and Walter but no one else. The only reason I even know that is because i have a website with the Nabble link on it and the original link stopped working... but I was able to still get on the forum directly and so could Bob and Walter. All of the posts since then are gone. Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Hey, I got an email notification that you posted a Patrick Walsh vid but it's not on the forum. Did you delete it or is there a glitch?
