Paul Revere and the Raiders performed a commercial for the GTO Judge by Pontiac.

I still can't believe that GM would keep Buick or GMC ahead of Pontiac. Any way you could slice it, how sad.

But this is really cool, though short.

In fact, I can't be this short, so I'll post another Raiders' classic.

Short-lived but very under rated band. The second cut is actual footage. Unreal...How this band never got further than they did, I do not know...

Yes, it is very sad to see the classic car lines go away.  I can see them keeping the Buick line for the seniors, but two truck lines instead of Pontiac???

We were a lot younger than this when we did this song.  Probably 11 or 12.  But, that's when we started playing at the teen center wasn't it?  Maybe 13?
Great memories.  Still great hanging out with the band - even though most of the hanging is on-line.

So what's up wit the miniature instruments in the Stepin' Out video? Between that and the outfits I guess the Raiders had quite a good sense of humor.

And I couldn't help watching the girls dancing in the Kicks video doing those great 60's styles dances. Very cool. The Raiders vocals were always the highlight of their music to me.

JP, did you guys have a name? that's a great basement band photo, I think we need to put that one in the gallery.

The band was "Morning Dew".  Great name!
When Jerry, Paul, Paul's brother Mike and I started out:
Jerry had a guitar and amp (Jerry, what were they?)
Mike had an acoustic guitar for bass,
Paul had a snare and a cymbal
I had a corner electronics store PA and little plastic mike.

My parents had a big family gathering and I don't remember how or why we did it, but our band played in the basement.  We were all about 10-12 years old.  I remember people smiling and laughing and wondered at the time why they thought this was funny or "cute" cause damnit - we were GOOD!  We played some great songs, even then.  What I didn't realize then was how funny it was for a band to play and me to sing songs with lyrics like:

I gotta bad taste in my mouth from bitter tears,
Oh I'm feelin sad cause, loves gone bad!

This band had great names like "Ben the Hen and his Men"  or Ylam and slowly progressed to Morning Dew.
I tell you what, it was a great way to grow up.

I had a red Gibson Melody Maker with dual pickups & a Gibson Skylark amp.




In fact, Paul gave us a great picture of exactly what you described.  I don't think we wore the sunglasses when we played for your family, but I'm sure we still looked pretty cool!  


BTW, my mom laughed every time you sang those lyrics during our practices!
