Dion (with and without the Belmonts)

Seymouro
Hope that I am not getting too "dated" for you "kids".

Dion was and remains my favorite 50's and 60's "crossover" artist.

Dude scored dozens of hits. But one with the "Belmonts" made huge impact with me. "The Wanderer" was released in '61. It is an all-time classic! Is this guy as cool and composed as any of us would ever hope to be?

The next one was a total re-invention of him at this point in his career in '69. I have shed many tears over "Abraham, Martin and John". There is still controversy about the issue of "did he even write this song?" (I believe that he did...), but all Americans should see how deep he was impacted by these tragic events regardless of that issue, either way... I attached this version because it was an honest reproduction of his original work... video notwithstanding! Great piece for Memorial day. Sorry I am late, I sprained my hip Saturday gang...

Peace, love and understanding. (Did NOT mean to channel Elvis Costello!).

Remember, reflect and enjoy!

Man that's a jammin' harp on A,M,&J. A good pick for Memorial Day indeed.
The Wanderer........or should I say "mr. non-commital" is .......OK ,for another lip-sync performance.
Funny you should mention Elvis Costello since just last night I was looking for just the right one to post.
I'm a big fan of his and here's one that is so new it isn't even released yet. The music is kind of simple but the lyrics are very clever.

Paul,

Well, I probably agree that "The Wanderer) was a "lip synching" performance, but look closely...if indeed it was it was pretty darned good. And I think almost all of them were in the 50's to early 60's and on. And still today. The point is that Dion was 30 years ahead of MTV!

Either way, I love the artist and am thrilled that I could actually see a video that is two years shy of age 50 (not Dion, the video), and see it as performed, lip synch or not...

Yeah, back in the 50's and 60's commercial singers were expert lip-sync'ers and seemed to highly prefer using the studio track as opposed to live. Brings the Andy Williams Christmas specials to mind where Andy is strolling around singing and it's way obvious that it's the studio recording. In the Dion vid my favorite part is when they pan the camera around to show the audience sitting at tables with little lamps and formal attire listening to a pop-rock performance. That just kills me.

Paul, that Elvis Costello vid is very cool.

COOK will get you for that Mark...

Funny little skit, but A.W. is not rock. Dion and the Belmonts are. Yes, they do have lip-synching in common.

So, here's one for you. Mystery artist.

Oh, ooooohh.... not Barry!!!  Was that really called for? I don't know why I thought of AW but you have to admit that vid of him skating around is hillarious. At least it was to me. The Barry vid is just cruel and I could only watch the first three minutes or so

Yeah, I admit that was cruel Mark.

And Andy did show some good moves.

Truce in order.

But I haven't gotten out my big guns yet....Andy with the Osmonds or Andy singing his big hit "Moon River."

I'm sure you'd respond with even more painful displays of displeasure so I guess we should stop before this gets out of hand.

I must say that I did enjoy this thread while it lasted. Good work mate.
