Blue Oyster Cult...NYC Powerhouse

How come this band never made it big?

Eric Bloom is one of the top vocalists I have ever heard.

Lead guitarist Donald (Buck Dharma) Roeser should get kicked in the teeth whenever he sings, but can he ever pick it!

Here are a few top picks...

Mark, Ed Horn and I rocked these Secret Treaties classics on 8 track in high school...

"Harvester of Eyes" leads into "Flaming Telepaths", then "Astronomy".

Their very best, in my opinion.

Here you go.

"I am the Storm" from "Mirrors"...

Two more examples from "Cultosaurus Erectus"..."Black Blade"...

"Divine Wind" from the same album...translated from Japanese language means "Kamikaze". NOT the DRINK. The ACT. Written during the Iran hostage crisis, it is a prescient warning stating about the Ayatollah Khomeini, that "If they REALLY think we're the DEVIL, then let's send them to HELL". Whooaah!

I think that they made it big.... "Burnin' For You" and "Don't Fear the Reaper" were big hits and I still hear those on the radio. I've always been a fan so I would have liked to hear stuff off of "Secret Treaties" on the radio but that's how it goes. As usual my favorite album was ignored by the radio.

And here's one that used to get good airplay that I really liked, especially the lyrics:

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the city's high tension wires down, Godzilla!

Helpless people on subway trains
Scream BUG-EYED(MY GOD) as he looks in on them, Godzilla!

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town, Godzilla

Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of men
Godzilla!
