1979 and Ode To No One

Seymouro
This post was updated on .
This band comes out of Chicago, where I just spent the last week.

Most of this genre is out of Seattle. but the Pumpkins may be my favorite. I'll put up two. I have a soft spot for the first one. Just something about the innocent (?) youthful playful feel of it all.

I put the lyric-included video up because they are so excellent.

As for the second one -Now for some serious head banging! This Jimmy guy on drums...Fireworks for the 4th!

The embed is in the middle of "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" so listen on if you have time.

Ah, the Pumpkins, an acquired taste considered by fans of the Seattle bands. I know the 1st tune well but not the second. Definitely a hard hitter and i like it. Thanks.

Great tunes!

Whenever I hear the name Smashing Pumpkins the first thing I think of is... "Despite all my rage i am still just a rat in a cage"

Every time.

Ahh, yes "Bullet With Butterfly Wings".

Good tune indeed. Dean begs to differ at Bonnie Raitt level. He says he can't stand Billy Corgan's voice, too faggy. I think the man has a point regarding that in a few spots in a few songs. Hates them (he's entitled to his opinion, if I hate the vocals I'm out on most tunes myself). But the writing, instrumental and even videography are so outstanding that it works well for me. They did not last long but that's a hell of an album that followed a real good one prior to it (Siamese something...)

Here's one from the same album. This video was put together by someone not affiliated with the band but it fits this iconic Pumpkins song perfectly.

Good songs and that last one is a real rocker. Makes me wonder what ever happened to the Smashing Pumpkins. I assume they broke up at some point right?

Hi Bob - They are touring right now. The band has been on and off but not to GNR levels. Pine Knob size venues. They are missing that young lady that played the hell out of that bass. No new material that I am aware of though.

Time flies. It doesn't seem that long ago that most of it dating back to the turn of the millenium, was new.
